CEO Position

The Ian Harrington Group has a proud and rich history as a privately owned and operated Tasmanian company. The founder, Ian Harrington was a pioneer. A hard worker, an industry leader and visionary, he established his small business more than 50 years ago with a commitment to quality and customer service and developed it into a state-wide icon. Today, the Ian Harrington Group stretches its network state-wide with long standing members Roadways and Statewide Linemarking and the acquired businesses, Protector Rail and Rockit Asphalting.

With a workforce of more than 100 Tasmanians spread out across the state from Hobart and Burnie, we proudly remain Tasmanian owned and operated, and an intrinsic part of the Tasmanian community. As the Ian Harrington Group builds on its success and growth the Board of Directors will be engaging a new CEO, based in Hobart, to commence work in the New Year.

Position Description

  • Develop strategic business plans and policies for the Board’s approval
  • Lead and model Group culture with a strong safety ethos
  • Manage the sustainable development of the business including further economic opportunities for the business
  • Implement operational strategies in accordance with the Board’s approved policies, strategies and plans
  • Ensure the Company meets its legal obligations in all areas of its operations
  • Monitor and control the Company’s performance and finances in accordance with budgets and forecasts approved by the Board
  • Ensure products and services adhere to the required industry and government standards and specifications
  • Develop and maintain an Asset Management Plan to ensure the Company’s assets are protected and maintained
  • Present capital expenditure plans for approval by the Board
  • Keep the Board advised of all significant developments in the industry and the Group
  • Build and maintain relationships with the full range of industry stakeholders
  • Any other duties as directed by the Board

Selection Criteria


Demonstrated ability and experience with:

  • Strategy and Planning processes
  • High level commercial environments and the development of Business Models and Business Plans
  • Understanding and application of relevant Legislation
  • Forecasting, applying, monitoring and reviewing Financial, Human and Material resources
  • Managing safety performance – leading a safe and productive workplace
  • Working with diverse stakeholder groups to meet their needs and expectations


  • Experience in infrastructure development
  • Relevant qualifications
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining Board relationships
  • Building and maintaining networks
  • Applying excellent verbal and written communication skills
